How am I doing? / ¿Cómo estoy?

Hello readers! I have wanted to write for sometime now because lots of lovely people have been asking how I am doing.  And it is honestly a little complicated to answer.  If you ask how am I doing physically? I would answer: symptoms are getting worse & ugly. I have my ups and downs.  If you ask how am I REALLY doing? I will attempt to answer that question through this blog.

These past months have been really delightful and fun. God has been teaching me a lot about “joy”.  It sounds cheesy, I know.  I always thought the word “joy” sounded religious. I like to use the word “happy” instead. I still think those two words are interchangeable.  But the difference between joy and happy is that happy is based on what’s happening, on the circumstances. Joy is intrinsic, not dependent on what’s going on in our circumstances.  So here I am, learning to enjoy Him and enjoy my life, regardless of the circumstances.  Psalm 37:4 says: Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

I marvel how much scientists and the Bible coincide in this matter.  My doctor warned me that my therapy would not work if I let stress into my life.   Dr. Caroline Leaf, a scientist of the brain, teaches how stress, anger, unhappiness, and all the matters of the heart affect our health.  Proverbs 4:23 say: Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. And not only that, but Proverbs 17:22 says:  A merry heart does good, like medicine. Well, I have been ingesting this medicine lately and I love it!

How do we get joy?  Well, it is by accepting God´s love and Grace DAILY. While circumstances change all the time, His love and His Grace don’t.  So it is only when we accept His love daily that we start to enjoy life in the midst of whatever is going on around us. Don’t get confused by thinking that I am strong. I am just accepting His love daily, and while I do, He becomes strong in me.

Sample scenarios that play in my mind while I accept His love and Grace daily
Circumstance
Accepting His love and Grace
I feel so weak.
It’s okay, He loves me and He is my strength.
Ugh! I have so much pain today.
Rest. He’s holding me right now. He loves me, just rest. Even if I am angry/crying because of the pain, He loves me. It’s okay. He won’t stop loving me.
I bleed daily, am I dying?
Let it go Viv. He loves me and takes care of me even if I don’t understand how.
But my symptoms get worse everyday.
It doesn’t matter. He loves me and He holds my future in His hands.
But the doctor said that I would die from this.
Don’t worry. He loves me and takes care of me. By His stripes I am healed.

[Accept His love by believing what God/Bible says about your situation]

I keep telling everyone that during these days Chris and I are living out Psalm 23:5: You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. God has blessed us with so much peace in the middle of the storm that we are going through.  We have been enjoying life so much lately.  God literally has shamed our enemy Cancer.  I’m learning that while we rest in His promises and while we enjoy Him and life, He is destroying our enemies.  Ha! I love it.  I will keep taking my medicine (joy) daily.  You should too :)

P.S. If you haven’t accepted Jesus in your heart so that you can enjoy life in the way that I describe it here, please contact me. I would love to talk to you.

I wrote this about three months ago to share it, and as a reminder for me

Bueno, pues yo he estado tomando esta medicina últimamente y me encanta!

Circunstancia
Como acepto Su amor y Gracia
Me siento tan débil hoy.
Ahh tengo tanto dolor.
No importa.
No te preocupes Vivian.

I have Good News / Tengo Buenas Noticias

These days, I am really excited about all that I have been learning. I am happy for all that God has shown me, and I am so pumped with this beautiful spring weather. I hope you are enjoying it too.

A couple of months ago, I made some wristbands that say: "Thank you Jesus that by your stripes I am healed". It’s my favorite wristband/bracelett.  Everytime I see it my hearts pumps out of my chest. I am seriously grateful! Not because I will be healed but because I am healed (present tense).  “What?!” You might ask. “Did the oncologist give you a clean bill of health?”  Well… no, and that is okay. I decided sometime ago that I was going to believe what the Bible says about my current situation: “…the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Jesus, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.” Isaiah 53:5 AMP

I know that you might think I am crazy or in denial or wrong, and that is okay. I know I sound nuts, but that is what faith is all about: you believe what God says even when you cannot see it with your natural eyes. And I believe wholeheartely that the Bible is the Word of God and it is the truth.

Yes, I do have a lot of symptoms: pain, bleeding, weakness, nausea, etc, (you name it). Yes, I do cry a lot when I’m in pain or when someone rubs it in my face that my body has cancer. Yes, I know the doctor is not lying to me, I know he sees cancer growing in my body. And those are facts. But what I’m talking about when I say that I am healed is a situation of facts vs. truth.

The facts are the things that I can see with my eyes and perceive with my five senses.  The truth is what God says about me.  And I have decided to believe the truth, regardless of all the facts.  I know I will see the healing manifested in my body with my natural eyes in the near future. But today, I see it with my spiritual eyes and I am grateful for that.

“But what about the people that believed God for healing and they still died? What if is not God’s will for you to be healed?” You might ask. Well… I can humbly tell you that I don’t know what to tell you about other people’s experiences. I just know what the Bible says about me and about healing:

It says that by His stripes I am healed.
It says that with long life He will satisfy me.
It says that I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
It says that He wants me to prosper and be in good health, just as my soul prospers.
It says that the same Spirit that raised Jesus will give life to my mortal body.
It says that Jesus redeemed me from the curse of the law (illnesses, poverty, bondage, etc).
It says that Jesus went around and healed all who were oppresed by the devil.  (This means that sickness is an oppresion that comes from the devil. It does not come from God).

What’s rooted in my heart is that God did not call me to base my belief in other people’s experiences but in the Word of God alone.  And if it says that by Jesus’ stripes I am healed, then I believe it.

I have asked all my family and friends to say prayers of thanksgiving that by His stripes I am healed, instead of asking for healing. We already asked God in the past for healing and He heard us & now we just thank Him. So if you get a chance to pray for me, I want to ask you to thank Jesus & praise Him that by His stripes I am healed.  He is good for what He has done for me & I am grateful!

 y molido por nuestras iniquidades;

Christmas Hope Video

It’s almost Christmas day folks! I’m so happy that I get to celebrate Jesus’ birthday with family & friends. This afternoon I got to hang out with my parents and my awesome nephew Lucas. Seriously, that boy brings so much joy to my heart! And tonight, I get to hang out with sweet friends. God has certanly given me a great life.

This morning, however, was the least favorite part of my day. I had to get up early and head to the oncologist’s office. He wanted to see us to discusss the results from my last exams. Chris & I have been asking God to help our hearts & minds rest in His promises of love & health. We want to rest in His report alone –by His stripes I am healed.

At the doctor’s office, we waited for a long time in this cold room. All of a sudden, Chris starts singing this old song (in his off pitch voice, so cute!):

My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name.

On Christ the solid rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand;
all other ground is sinking sand.

When Darkness veils his lovely face.
I rest on his unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil.

I love it! After Chris’ beautiful off pitch rendition to this hymn, we talked about hope. What is hope? “Hope is not wishful positive thinking. Hope is passionate trust in God. Hope never denies the facts. Hope admits that it’s bad, that it is actually really bad, but still believes and trusts in God. Hope trusts in what God can do” –Rick Warren.

So finally the oncologist came to the room and gave us good and bad news. The good news is that the cancer hasn’t spread to any other organs (metastasized). The bad news is that the cancer is spreading within the uterus (growing in the uterus).  There are a lot of unknowns and more decisions to make regarding treatments. For now, I am so thankful to God and all of you who prayed for rest. I’m excited to announce that our souls have been resting all day today. It feels so good to be able to rest in the fact that He takes care of me and I don’t need to understand everything.

What can you do for us? Please keep praying for:
1. Rest
2. Strength
3. Direction
4. Prayers of thanksgiving that by His stripes I am healed!

Have a very Merry Christmas!!

PS. An excerption of Chris singing this morning :)

Me encantó!
